When Manchester United plays Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford, nothing appears to be going well so far.
After Rasmus Hojlund was denied an equalizer and his first club goal against Brighton and Hove Albion, Manchester United supporters criticized VAR.
The Reds had a fantastic start to the game and were putting solid pressure on the opposition’s goal. However, they unexpectedly found themselves in the losing column.
Unsurprisingly, Danny Welbeck returned to haunt his old team, tapping in from close range following a brief break in focus. Marcus Rashford nearly equalized but struck the woodwork, helping United come back after going behind.
Erik ten Hag believed, however, that his club had leveled off just before the break thanks to his fresh investment. Rashford made a deft move to reach the byline before bringing the pass back to Hojlund, who scored the goal.
However, the joy was short-lived as VAR identified a mistake in the goal’s setup very quickly. When Rashford reached the byline, the officials decided to determine if the ball had been declared out of play.
The goal was disallowed at Stockley Park after a brief discussion because the ball had left the field of play. To be deemed out according to the text of the law, the ball must be completely off the field.
However, the decision was not well received by United supporters, who blamed VAR for overturning what would have been the Dane’s first home goal. Here are some comments made on X by some of the supporters.
