The substitution of Anthony Martial for Rasmus Hojlund against Brighton was not well received by Manchester United supporters, as made by Erik ten Hag.
On Saturday against Brighton in a Premier League game, the Danish forward made his Manchester United debut. Despite having a solid performance, Ten Hag chose to replace the striker in the 64th minute with Anthony Martial, which was met with loud jeers from Old Trafford spectators as Hojlund stepped off the field.
In the 42nd minute, Hojlund came close to scoring his first goal for Manchester United, but VAR disallowed the goal. Marcus Rashford’s assist had led to the striker scoring, but the VAR review revealed that the ball had passed the byline prior to Rashford’s delivery.
After losing to Arsenal in their previous gameweek, Manchester United suffered again another setback. The Seagulls’ Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross, and Joao Pedro all found the back of the net, while the Red Devils’ Hannibal Mejbri netted a late consolation.
On Wednesday, Bayern Munich will be Erik ten Hag’s team’s next opponent in the Champions League.
