Andre Onana, the goalkeeper for Manchester United, is a FIFA Best award nominee.

After a great 2022–2023 season with Inter Milan, the 27-year-old goalkeeper from Man United has been named to a five-man shortlist.

Andre Onana of Manchester United has been put forward for the 2023 FIFA Best Men’s Goalkeeper honor.

Onana is one of five players who have been shortlisted for the award, along with Yassine Bounou of Al-Hilal, Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid, Ederson of Manchester City, and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen of Barcelona. The 27-year-old has been recognized for his achievements with Inter Milan throughout the previous season.

The Supercoppa Italiana and the Coppa Italia were won by Simone Inzaghi’s team last season, giving them two significant titles. Additionally, they advanced to the Champions League final, where they fell to Manchester City 1-0 in June.

Last season, Onana made 41 appearances for Inter in all competitions while recording 19 shutouts. The domestic cup finals were missed by the Cameroon international, as Inzaghi chose Samir Handanovic over the first-choice player.

Pep Guardiola, the manager of City, singled out Onana for appreciation before the Champions League final in Istanbul. Onana is an amazing goalkeeper to assume the position to build up, according to him, given the manner they play with a heavy press. Exceptionally good.

The Inter goalkeeper’s performance in the 2022–2023 season was so strong that Erik ten Hag authorized a £47.2 million transfer to bring him to United. Before leaving Amsterdam together last summer, Onana and Ten Hag collaborated at Ajax.

During preseason, Onana traveled to the United States to join the team. He immediately made an impression with a series of long, raking passes. The Reds goalkeeper has had a good start to life in Manchester despite receiving a lob from the halfway line against RC Lens.

Only one clean sheet has resulted from four starts, but there have been several excellent saves to prevent additional goals from being scored. Onana has remained impressive because of his skill with the ball.
