Bruno Fernandes praised the Champions League as being the “best competition in the world” and expressed his anticipation for Manchester United’s comeback.
After a season away, the Red Devils are back among the top teams in Europe, and their Portuguese talisman is eager for the new season to start. Along with Bayern Munich, FC Copenhagen, and Galatasaray, United was placed in Group A. On September 20, they will play their road debut against German powerhouse Bayern.
In the first episode of the brand-new TeamViewer Diaries series, Fernandes noted, “It’s always special to be in the Champions League.”
“It’s the best competition in the world for clubs, and it’s something that you want to be in because you play against the best clubs in Europe, so that’s why you want to be there,” he continued.
In 13 appearances for United in the Champions League, Fernandes has four goals to his credit. The 29-year-old is ready to take advantage of the floodlights at a busy Old Trafford and hopes to score Stretford End to further arouse the fans’ enthusiasm.
“We played in the Champions League in a stadium without spectators since I started playing here. But after I got the chance to play in front of the crowd and we picked up a few late victories, that was something unique, and the nights of the Champions League will feel different. You know, I believe the newcomers will be anticipating those nights as well. Us too, and I’m hoping to contribute with a few goals at the Stretford End,” he continued.
On September 16, United will play a challenging Premier League match at Old Trafford against Brighton before departing for Germany to begin their European campaign against the five-time winners.
