What transpired with the four athletes Advised Manchester United to sign, Ralf Rangnick

Four players were suggested to Man United by Ralf Rangnick while he served as interim manager at Old Trafford.

The time Ralf Rangnick served as Manchester United’s temporary manager was notable for all the wrong reasons.

After his brief stint in charge, the 65-year-old was supposed to take on an advising role, but the entrance of Erik ten Hag caused United to sever connections with Rangnick.

After taking over for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the Norwegian left in November 2021, the German coach contributed to United’s worst-ever Premier League season.

Rangnick, on the other hand, would have advised United to sign some quality players. Here, MEN Sport examines the current status of the four players he suggested to the team.

Christopher Nkunku moved to Chelsea for £52 million this summer, but Rangnick had suggested him to United.

Nkunku, 25, followed up his outstanding 35-goal haul from the previous season with an amazing 23 goals across all competitions.

The Frenchman is yet to play for Chelsea because of his injury, which has kept him out of action.

Haaland, Erling

Let’s not dwell on this for too long.

A hat-trick versus United in the 6-3 thrashing at the Etihad in October of last year earned him a Premier League medal, a Champions League medal, an FA Cup victory, and 52 goals in his first season in England.

The midfield for United has significantly changed since Rangnick left.

However, that doesn’t mean Laimer wouldn’t have been a terrific acquisition. Casemiro, Mason Mount, and Christian Eriksen have all been added to the midfield ranks, and Sofyan Amrabat has joined them after his deadline-day move.

When Rangnick suggested the Austrian international to United, Bayern was showing interest in him. Since then, the player has moved to the Allianz Arena. His career has occasionally been limited by injuries, but he has started each of Bayern’s three Bundesliga games so far this season, and Thomas Tuchel’s team has earned all three points.

While it’s too soon to say that United missed a trick by not signing the Croatian international, Josko Gvardiol’s £77.5 million move to the Etihad this summer suggests he could be a great acquisition. His World Cup performances and versatility at left-back and center-back suggest he could be a great buy.

Even though Rangnick’s tenure as United’s manager may not have been the finest, it’s difficult to argue against the players he suggested to the team.
