Jadon Sancho’s future at Old Trafford is in doubt as a result of his public encounter with Erik ten Hag.
Another door opens when the first one closes.
Erik ten Hag may not have expected a quiet international break for Manchester United, but two eliminated internationals have diverted his attention. The only available avenue of escape for the former Ajax protégé is the Turkish market as Donny van de Beek has been unable to clinch a proposed move away from Old Trafford this summer. The deadline for that transfer window is September 15.
Van van Beek was left off of Ten Hag’s 25-man Champions League roster this week, and one player who did make the cut has subsequently given him a difficult choice to make. But what will happen to Jadon Sancho after that played-out argument with his manager?
There may be no quick answer to that, but Sancho will surely not be emulating Cristiano Ronaldo after the lucrative Saudi Arabia market shut down on Thursday night. Ronaldo was the other player who ventured to cross Ten Hag. Even with a loan transfer, the numbers did not stack up despite some late murmurings.
If he departs, either now or in January, United will require a replacement. Assuming he stays, it will obviously take place behind the scenes. They may even have a remedy on hand.
In order to solve long-standing difficulties on their right side, United worked with Atalanta to get Amad Diallo before approving a transfer for Sancho while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the manager. Since then, other deals in a similar situation have been made for significant sums of money, but Amad’s door is now open.

During Amad’s successful loan stint at Sunderland last season, manager Tony Mowbray said, “I hope Amad will bring personality to the team when he gets back to Old Trafford and he will find his niche in that group.” He’s been fantastic for us, so Sunderland is always welcome to have him back.
Given what transpired on the field right before his eyes, he might have said that final statement with a bit of humor. Simply said, Amad destroyed the Championship last season, scoring 13 goals and dishing out three assists in 37 games while playing the No. 10 position and right wing United had originally signed him for.
Being a football player is insufficient, continued Mowbray. “You must have courage, character, and resilience to overcome difficult times. But to be a quality football player, you must be at ease with the ball and take it in confined spaces, and Amad can unquestionably do that.
“Only time will tell when he is among the star players at United if he has the correct personality. Amad is a master with the ball at this level. If he has any sympathy for me, he would fit in well with the elite footballers at United.
United has one to determine if that is actually the case. The young Ivorian must be taken into account when he eventually recovers from his injury, if only to support or refute the £37 million investment made in him.
He undoubtedly possesses the proper attitude, application, and aptitude. Three catchphrases that will make Ten Hag happy.
