Kristian Fletcher’s loan transfer from DC United, owned by Manchester United great Wayne Rooney, to Championship team Swansea City is now complete.
Kristian Fletcher, a promising player for DC United, has signed a loan deal with Swansea City of the Championship.
The 18-year-old forward, who has had trials at Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund, only joined the MLS team a year ago, but in that short time, he has impressed his manager and Reds great Wayne Rooney.
Pictures of Fletcher training at Carrington in November 2021 after going on trial with United were posted on Instagram by his former junior team, despite the club ultimately decided against signing him. The following year, it was revealed that Fletcher had signed a homegrown deal with Rooney’s DC United, until 2025 with an additional year option, from his High School squad.
“Kristian is a fantastic young talent, and we have been monitoring his progress with Loudoun United since he joined the club,” stated Lucy Rushton, D.C. United General Manager, when he was announced as joining the team in August 2022. Wayne [Rooney] has been impressed by the qualities he has displayed in games and during first team training. He is a versatile offensive player.
We anticipate his continued growth as a member of D.C. United’s first squad.
Despite being young, Fletcher made quite an impression on his manager by scoring one goal and providing one assist in 15 games for DC United. It is obvious that Rooney would have preferred to have kept hold of Fletcher for a little while longer.
Rooney told The Washington Post, “He’s a fantastic talent. “He’s got a bright future at the club,” someone said.
Fletcher earlier stated that while he was also on trial with Red Bull Salzburg, he was “very close” to joining with Dortmund. The kid will now be joining Swansea City, it has been revealed.
Kristian Fletcher has joined Swansea City’s Under-21 team on loan through January 2024, pending international clearance, the club announced in a statement.
“Fletcher has played for DC in 12 MLS games, tallying one goal, and in the summer of 2022, he had trials with teams like Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United.
He has received caps at the under-15 and under-19 levels as a young international for the United States.
“The 18-year-old’s transfer was finalized before the summer transfer window closed, and it was confirmed after the player arrived in South Wales.
The forward, who now plays for MLS club DC United, will join Anthony Wright’s team for the first half of the season.
