Mason Greenwood, a forward for Man United who is now on loan at the Spanish team Getafe, will return to the Football Manager series, according to Sports Interactive.
Following the forward’s recent loan move to Getafe, Sports Interactive has announced that Mason Greenwood will be added back into the Football Manager game.
After a database update in February of last year, Greenwood was taken out of Football Manager 2022 and didn’t appear at all in Football Manager 2023. In the same month, the 21-year-old was also taken off of EA Sports’ FIFA 22 and did not appear in FIFA 23, but EA Sports has not yet said if the striker will appear in its upcoming game, EA Sports FC 24.
In a statement, Sports Interactive claimed that “players or officials serving indefinite suspensions from football, for any reason, are removed from Football Manager at the earliest opportunity,” according to The Athletic.
“Players or officials who have had their suspensions or playing restrictions lifted will be re-instated in-game at the next scheduled update.”
Despite the fact that Greenwood will return to the Football Manager games, it is unlikely that he will be added to FM23 because no significant database upgrade is anticipated before the release of their new game. Greenwood can most likely be resurrected in FM24, the upcoming Football Manager game, which is anticipated to be released in November 2023.
Since then, Sports Interactive has given the Manchester Evening News another statement verifying this procedure.
After the Final Data Update is published and the January and February transfer windows have closed, the game’s database is generally fixed and final, with a few exceptions.
After confirming that Greenwood wouldn’t be joining the squad after an internal inquiry into the accusations made against him on social media in January 2022, United has been trying to locate Greenwood a transfer away from the team.
Following the Crown Prosecution Service’s announcement in February that charges of attempted rape, assault, and coercive control had been dismissed, the club launched its own investigation into the incidents. On August 21, United said they believed Greenwood didn’t commit the crimes for which he was initially charged, but that it would be better if he rehabilitated his reputation.
