Sofyan Amrabat, a defensive midfielder for Fiorentina, signed for Manchester United on transfer deadline day for a season-long loan.
Sofyan Amrabat will wear No. 4 for the length of his loan from Fiorentina, according to Manchester United.
After completing a season-long transfer to Old Trafford from the Serie A club on deadline day, the Moroccan defensive midfielder arrived. Amrabat hasn’t previously sported the No. 4 at the club level in his time playing football so far.
Amrabat has worn the No. 4 jersey for his country’s squad since 2019, however his domestic career contains references to the number. He wore the number 44 when playing for FC Utrecht under Erik ten Hag, while Amrabat wore the number 34 while playing for Hellas Verona and Fiorentina.
Unfortunately for Amrabat, the number 34 is presently being worn by out-of-favor midfielder Donny van de Beek, thus he was unable to wear it at United. The No. 4 was most recently worn by Phil Jones, who left the team this past summer after his contract expired.
To prevent an Arsenal comeback, United must make a player sacrifice.
While playing for the team, legendary captain Steve Bruce famously donned the No. 4, while central midfielder Owen Hargreaves did the same while playing for the red side of Manchester. Amrabat stated after joining United: “Being a Manchester United player is an enormous honor. I had to wait for this time, but I always follow my heart, so here I am, representing the team of my dreams.
