As a result of a connection to his idol Cristiano Ronaldo, Alejandro Garnacho has disclosed his new squad number at Manchester United, which is 17.
The 19-year-old winger has never been shy in showing his respect for former Red Devils icon Ronaldo. At one point, there was talk of giving the young Argentine his idol’s No. 7 jersey, which he proudly wore at Old Trafford throughout his formative years.
Mason Mount, a July addition, now owns that shirt, forcing Garnacho to look elsewhere. Since breaking through at the senior level with United, he has worn No. 49, but his brother had hinted at a move by uploading a photo of Ronaldo sporting No. 17 for Portugal.
It is now official that Garnacho will wear the uniform in 2023–2024. Andy Cole, Fred, and Nani, among others, have all worn United’s No. 17 in the past.
With 38 competitive games for United and five goals to his credit, Garnacho is vying with players like Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony for regular playing time in wide attacking positions this year.
